Reactie Danielle Hirsch, directeur van Both ENDS, op het artikel "Cramers subsidieparadijs" in de Telegraaf van 27 augustus 2008: "Het artikel is tendentieus. Het gaat over belastinggeld dat over de balk gesmeten zou worden. Niets is minder waar.
Het is Nederlands beleid om verschillende groepen in de samenleving te ondersteunen die druk uitoefenen op overheid, burgers en bedrijfsleven om iets te doen aan milieuvraagstukken, en zo mogelijk structureel stappen te zetten naar een duurzame samenleving. Dat is algemeen belang. Natuurlijk hoort de derde wereld hier ook bij. Both ENDS ontvangt 320.000 euro van VROM over drie jaar, om iets te doen aan de mondiale milieuproblematiek. Daartoe werken wij samen met heel veel maatschappelijke organisaties in het Zuiden. De subsidie die we van VROM ontvangen is bedoeld om de ervaringen van maatschappelijke organisaties in het Zuiden hier voor het voetlicht te brengen. Dat heeft effect: kijk naar het debat over biomassa, watervoorziening, handel.
De situatie is zeer urgent; het is 2 voor 12. Zelfs de VVD profileert zich nu als GroenRechts. De milieuwoordvoerder van deze nieuwe GroenRechtse partij, mevrouw Nepperus, stelt dat het zonde is ons geld te besteden aan het stoppen van vervuilende auto's in de Amsterdamse binnenstad. Zij zegt het geld beter te besteden aan het stoppen van de branden op Kalimantan, Indonesië. Het oerwoud verdwijnt daar voor nieuw aan te leggen palmolieplantages.
Laat De Telegraaf haar eens vragen hoe dat te doen? Tien tegen één dat ze dan doorverwijst naar Both ENDS. Wij hebben onze partners ter plekke, en samen weten wij hoe we dit relevante VVD-voorstel moeten aanpakken!
