De toekomst van Europa. Hoe ziet die er uit en vooral, wat voor Europa wíllen we? Kiezen we voor het klimaat en een rechtvaardig Europa?
Op zaterdag 13 april vindt de jaarlijkse Afrikadag plaats in het Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen in Amsterdam.
Both ENDS en Voice 4 Thought verzorgen daar samen een workhop (voertaal Engels), genaamd
'Positive vibes from the Sahel: from regreening to slam poetry'

The Sahel region from Chad to Senegal is often seen in the Netherlands as an immensely dry, infertile area where extremists and smugglers serve and where hunger thrives. But there is so much more to tell about the Sahel region.
Over the last decades, a large number of positive social initiatives have been taken up both in the cities and in rural areas. Initiatives that create and stimulate self-esteem, culture, education, climate resilience and prosperity.
Young people are often the driving force behind these movements, which is not surprising considering that almost 70 percent of the population in a country like Niger is under the age of 25.
In this workshop Both ENDS and Voice4Thought want to tell the other story of the Sahel by highlighting some of these positive initiatives, and by showing how they are interlinked and part of a larger, bottom up movement in this area.

Both ENDS is mede-eiser in de Klimaatzaak tegen Shell, en op vrijdag 5 april wordt de dagvaarding ingediend waarmee we Shell aanklagen voor het veroorzaken van klimaatverandering. Normaal gesproken stuur je dan een deurwaarder langs om het pak papier te overhandigen, maar Milieudefensie en de mede-eisende organisaties willen met zoveel mogelijk andere mede-eisers naar het hoofdkantoor van Shell om de dagvaarding persoonlijk te overhandigen. Met een mars, toespraken, muziek en honderden mensen!

Op zondag 10 maart 2019 neemt Both ENDS deel aan wat naar verwachting de grootste klimaatmars van Nederland tot nu toe wordt. De mars wordt georganiseerd door Milieudefensie, Greenpeace, Oxfam Novib, FNV, De Goede Zaak en de Woonbond en wordt ondersteund door Both ENDS en een groot aantal diverse maatschappelijke organisaties. Samen eisen we een veilige toekomst voor onszelf, onze kinderen en voor alle mensen wier leven al bijna bijna onmogelijk is of zal worden gemaakt door de effecten van klimaatverandering zoals droogte, overstromingen ziekte en voedseltekorten.
Onze buitenlandse economische activiteiten en handel leveren veel op. Maar tegen welke kosten? Waar moeten we als Nederland de grens trekken om zowel binnen de planetaire grenzen te blijven als gelijkheid te bevorderen?
Both ENDS is co-organising a double panel discussion 'Delta Dynamics: Dutch Masterplans and the SDGs' on June 26th. This is part of the conference 'Critical Perspectives on Governance by Sustainable Development Goals: Water, Food and Climate (25-26 June 2018)' organized by the Centre for Sustainable Development Studies at the University of Amsterdam. At the sessions Both ENDS' partners from Jakarta and Manila will be presenting.
The Green Climate Fund aims to support transformational pathways to climate-resilient development, intends to reach those most vulnerable, and commits to a gender-sensitive approach. This session presents an important way of putting these commitments into practice: by engaging small grants funds. These funds can provide the much needed channel between large international institutions and local communities adapting to climate change, and assure financing reaches women and men to contribute to transformative climate action. But how to make this shift in how financing is delivered? The audience will be actively engaged in the discussion to come to concrete suggestions to strengthen local access and gender responsiveness of climate finance.
Join us for the fourth session of this five-part series on women's rights and climate finance, aimed at building knowledge and power to ensure finance flows benefit local women's groups, respond to community needs and respect human rights. The webinar will be conducted in English with simultaneous translation in Spanish and French.
Het International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Both ENDS, IUCN Nederland en Mama Cash nodigen je uit voor presentaties door Joan Carling, inheems leider en vrouwenrechtenactiviste uit de Filipijnen en lid van de permanente commissie inheemse volken van de VN, en Jan van de Venis, mensenrechtenadvocaat bij JustLaw, over de ervaringen van inheemse leiders op de Filipijnen in een context van toenemende onderdrukking en mensenrechtenschendingen tegen milieu-activisten.
