Official Statement of Indonesian Coalition for Monitoring Infrastructure Development related to AIIB Statement of Anti Retaliation

The Mandalika International Street Circuit is a street circuit in the resort of Mandalika in Central Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara Province. The project, mainly intended to attract tourists, is largely financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Unfortunately, human rights are brutally violated: people are evicted from their homes to make way for the asphalt and protests are crushed with a heavy hand. The Indonesian Infrastructure Development Monitoring Coalition, a group of Indonesian and international NGOs working to uphold human rights and protect the environment, sent an urgent letter to the AIIB to hold the bank accountable for the injustices that have been commonplace from the very start of the project. The coalition supports the demands of affected people to hold the AIIB and all shareholder states accountable in ensuring that they do their utmost to protect their rights to land, housing, livelihoods and justice.
