Both ENDS attends ‘Rio aan de Maas’

In preparation of Rio+20 - the June 2012 UN summit on sustainability - the Dutch National Platform Rio+20 organises the pre-event, 'Rio aan de Maas'. On the 30th of May policy makers, entrepreneurs and citizens will share and experience local initiatives for global sustainability in the Van Nelle Fabriek in Rotterdam. Both ENDS and Cordaid are organising the workshop 'Visions from the South' and will launch the book 'Imagining Sustainability'.

Visions from the South
During the Rio+20 summit world leaders will discuss possibilities for a green economy. Besides being green, this economy should also be social, offer equal opportunities and thereby eradicate poverty. The boundaries of ecosystems have to be respected to make sure the earth can provide for future generations. At the moment, most of the insights on a green economy come from Western thinkers, whilst ideas and experiences from other parts of the world are barely seen. Both ENDS shows that by involving the Southern perspectives a stimulating and inspiring dialogue is possible.

Both ENDS 'aan de Maas'
During the Rio aan the Maas event Both ENDS and Cordaid organise the workshop Visions from the South. This workshop will be a platform to share experiences, dilemmas and solutions that arise from the search for a green and fair economy. Participants can engage in a dialogue with Janet Awimbo, a Kenian ecologist, as well as a Dutch visionary in order to think of and be inspired by ideas of a sustainable and just world.

Launch of Imagining Sustainability
During the Rio aan de Maas conference, Both ENDS and Cordaid launch the book Imagining Sustainability. In this publication seven visionaries from developing countries share ideas and dreams that are based on local experiences and knowledge. It is a valuable source for those who want to be inspired during their search for a sustainable world and a green economy, especially for policy makers in the lead-up to the Rio+20 summit.
